Testing For Antiviral Activities Using These Agents.

There are multiple compounds found on a surface, be it textile, plastic, or disinfectant. For every person, including you, it is essential to know how vulnerable one is to any disease if they are close to a particular material.

Many industries consult with the antiviral testing labs as a mandatory part of their procedure and then send their products to the market. Today’s customer seeks information and knows the importance of being knowledge savvy.

They know that a small virus has caused immense disruption in the entire world. That is why all the consumers are cautious with whatever they buy. The viruses were identified and described years ago in the laboratories, but their widespread effect has only been seen for the past twenty to thirty years.

Antiviral testing in labs plays a pivotal role in determining drugs and developing new ones. Following are some of the organisms used to test the antiviral activity of any surface or material.

  • SARS-CoV–2

This is the strain responsible for the coronavirus pandemic that began in 2019 and is still in existence. This virus causes flu-like symptoms such as cold, cough, smell and taste loss, fever, headaches, etc. It also infects the upper and lower respiratory tracts. These symptoms can worsen in a small fraction of infected people and result in pneumonia, subsequently, death. Very few labs in the world test your products with this virus.

  • Human coronavirus

The human coronavirus (HCov-229E) strain was first founded in the year 1967. Like other strains of the coronavirus family, it also infects the upper respiratory tracts and has symptoms as that of the flu. This virus shows a slight genetic variation as compared to others from the same family. The comparatively minor genetic variation makes antiviral test results more reliable with the HCov-229E.

  • Beta Coronavirus

The Beta Coronavirus (OC43) (ATCC VR-1558) is one of the most common viruses associated with respiratory issues and human infections before the coronavirus of 2019. As compared to others, it shares a higher capacity to show genetic mutation. It is an ideal choice for antiviral testing labs to identify the antiviral efficiency of various compounds.

Testing of a product has become crucial in the last two years as the severity of genetic reproduction is high. Not only that, the viruses are deadly, and if not fatal, they can leave negative impacts on the health of humans for a long time. That is why industries prefer undergoing tests before distributing their products in the market.
